Beginning in the picturesque city of Porto on the Duro River, we will explore its colorful streets, sample the delectable cuisine, and admire the stunning architecture that blends modernity with tradition. We will then head to Braga, the spiritual epicenter of Portugal. In Lisbon, we will experience the local culture and enjoy a captivating Fado performance, before venturing to the magical town of Sintra, renowned for its fairytale-like castles and stunning landscapes. As we continue our journey along the Algarve coast, we will uncover the region’s best-kept secrets, including pristine beaches and mouth-watering seafood, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience that will leave you enamored with Portugal

  • In Lisbon we will discover Alfama, a typical and old neighborhood where you can meet the heritage culture and the local life, with mysterious alleys and side streets that gather houses, people, and stories.
  • Journey to Sintra. Sintra’s undisputed highlight is the 19th-century Pena Palace’s most incredible combination of architectural styles, colors, and shapes, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a fairytale. Followed by coastal drive, spotting several sandy beaches hidden within the cliffs, protected by the 17th-century fortresses along the coast.
  • Travel to Lagos for 3 nights. Lagos is a colorful and characterful town in southern Portugal’s Algarve region. It’s known for its walled old town, cliffs, and Atlantic beaches.The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Lagos combines perfectly traditional Portuguese culture and beautiful beaches. A perfect place to unwind from our previous busy days of the tour and slow down to the pace of Portugal.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive

In Porto Meet your driver for an airport transfer. A welcome package with our schedule will be waiting for you upon your arrival at your first hotel on the tour. Hotel Porto Bay Teatro Set in Porto’s theater district, this chic, upscale hotel is a 3-minute walk from the nearest metro station, a 7-minute walk from the storied Livraria Lello & Irmão bookshop. Breakfast is included. There’s a theater-inspired restaurant and a sophisticated bar with vintage photographs, as well as a gym and a secluded courtyard.

Day 2 The Adventure Begins

Learn about the history of Porto as you walk along its medieval streets on a 3-hour guided tour. Discover its most important buildings, visiting monuments dating from the 12th to the 19th century. Admire the Cathedral, Clérigos Church, the São Bento railway station, Aliados Avenue, the Bolhão Market, the Carmo and Carmelitas church, the Lello bookshop, and others. See the wooden Rabelo boats that have been used for centuries to transport people and goods along the Douro River. Marvel at the interior of the Lello bookshop, often called the most beautiful library in the world.

Day 3  Cultural Immersion  

Embark on a unique journey to Braga that will take you to the heart of Portugal’s rich heritage. Our experience is a journey through time, taking you back to the history that shaped this captivating nation. The order of each visit may vary, but our commitment to the essence of the cities remains unchanged. In Braga, ascend to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, famous for its majestic staircase leading to the church at the top. The panoramic views provide a breathtaking glimpse of the city, preparing you for an unforgettable journey. Explore the Sanctuary of Sameiro, a refuge of peace and spirituality nestled in the mountains of Portugal. Discover this sacred place adorned with imposing.

architecture and stunning views that invite contemplation and reflection. Discover the Cathedral of Braga, the oldest in Portugal. Here, you’ll have exclusive access to places like the chapel and the high choir. An intimate experience that will transport you to the heart of the country’s religious and architectural heritage. Lunch is a celebration of Portuguese cuisine, served in a local restaurant where you can savor the famous “Vinho Verde” from the region. Each dish is a tribute to culinary tradition, a delight for your senses. Explore the streets of Guimarães, steeped in history and medieval atmosphere, known as the cradle of Portugal. A stroll through the streets of the medieval historic center is a journey into the past, where every corner tells the story of the nation’s origins. 

 The visit to the Palace of the Dukes is an opportunity to marvel at the opulence and luxuries of royalty from another time, a true immersion in the splendor of the past.This is an experience that goes beyond conventional tourism. It’s an opportunity to connect with the roots of Portugal and understand its history, culture, and spirituality

Day 4 Porto to Lisbon 

Travel from Porto to Lisbon and enjoy a stop in Aveiro.  After getting picked up from our hotel in Porto, travel towards Aveiro.  Aveiro is a city on the west coast of Portugal set along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro. It’s distinguished by its canals navigated by colorful boats (barcos moliceiros), traditionally used to harvest seaweed. Not far from its core, known for art nouveau buildings, is the Cathedral of Aveiro, with its prominent bell tower. The Museu de Aveiro, housed in a former convent, has a lavish tomb made of marble. Enjoy some free time to explore the canals, Nouveau architecture, and colorfully painted Moliceiros boats of the city. (90minute stop)

 

We will then proceed to Lisbon, a popular tourist destination but far less overrun with tourists than cities in France or Spain. It’s easier to find yourself among residents even in tourist neighborhoods. September is the best month to visit and Portugal is considered quite affordable. We will check into the hotel and later go to a Fado dining experience. Fado refers to the national song style of Portugal and is deemed of cultural importance to Lisbon and therefore protected by UNESCO. Experience live Fado this evening at an excellent Fado Restaurant. Enjoy the great show and ambiance as you listen to the Fado singers over dinner at one of Lisbon’s most famous venues. Includes a 3-course meal, wine, coffee, and water as well as private return transportation. Montebelo Vista Alegre Lisboa Chiado is a five-star hotel in Lisbon belonging to Located in the heart of Chiado, the hotel is just a five-minute walk from the 

Tagus River and very close to some of the city’s main attractions, such as Terreiro do Paço, Príncipe Real and Baixa Pombalina.  Surrounded by art galleries, centuries-old cafes, museums, theaters, bars, restaurants, and shops, its location is ideal for discovering Lisbon’s most iconic shopping and entertainment areas.

Day 5  Heart of Lisbon

We will have the morning and early afternoon to discover Lisbon on our own or enjoy the hotel pool or spa. Today’s tour will start at 2:30 pm and will be around 3 hours. It will be an introduction to Lisbon from the heart of the city to the oldest part of Lisbon. We will discover Alfama, a typical and old neighborhood where you can meet the heritage culture and the local life, with mysterious alleys and side streets that gather houses, people, and stories. This project Alfacinha LX shows the secrets of Lisbon the charm and uniqueness of this city made of layers of history.

Day 6 Winding the Wind-Swept Shorelines

We will depart early (7:15 in the morning to beat the crowds)  by Mercedes transport for a visit to Sintra we will find ourselves surrounded by the old houses that are now converted into small quaint handicraft shops and traditional pastry shops. Sintra’s undisputed highlight is the 19th-century Pena Palace’s most incredible combination of architectural styles, colors, and shapes, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a fairytale.  Afterwards, we will stop for lunch, (not included) before heading to Azenhas do Mar with a beautiful panorama view of the fishing village on a cliff. Cabo de Roca is the most western point of the European continent.

We will see the Boca do Inferno: an Arch made of stone where the ocean water enters violently creating a beautiful spectacle. 

Afterward, we will go on a scenic coastal drive, spotting several sandy beaches hidden within the cliffs, protected by the 17th-century fortresses along the coast. Arrive in the beautiful resort town of Estoril, famous as the home of the Casino Estoril and Hotel Palácio, known rendezvous points for WWII spies and their handlers, while Portugal remained politically neutral.

 

Cascais, once a small fishing village, the town has managed to maintain its seafaring traditions combined with the aristocratic and royal presences of the late 19th and early 20th century, as it shifted into a luxurious resort town on the Portugal Riviera.

Passing through its animated town center you’ll find a cosmopolitan life side by side with stunning Atlantic beaches. Conclude your day with a return to Lisbon for our final dinner in Lisbon on your own.

Day 7 Lisbon to the Algarve Coast Lagos 

Meet your private driver for transport to Lagos, Portugal. (Approx 3 hrs)

Lagos is a colorful and characterful town in southern Portugal’s Algarve region. It’s known for its walled old town, cliffs, and Atlantic beaches. Steep wooden steps lead to the sandy cove of Praia do Camilo. The nearby cliffs of Ponta de Piedade offer sweeping headland views and a lighthouse. Igreja de Santo António, an ornate 18th-century church, sits across from the Castelo dos Governadores, a castle with a baroque facade and watchtowers.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Lagos combines perfectly traditional Portuguese culture and beautiful beaches. A perfect place to unwind from our previous busy days of the tour and slow down to the pace of Portugal.
We will be here for 3 nights and 4 days.  Lagos Avenida Hotel. Offering an outdoor pool and views of the marina and sea, Lagos Avenida Hotel is set in Lagos city center in the Algarve, within a 10-minute drive from Meia Praia Beach Lagos. 

Day 8  Lagos

We will have the day free to Explore Lagos on your own. We will provide optional outings that you may choose from (not included) We will lead an optional walk to Ponta da Piedade, a group of spectacular rock formations, caves, grottoes, and sea arches along the coastline.

It is one of the most beautiful places of the Algarve and Portugal. Other outings include kayaking, cruises along the coastline, and exploring the walled town of Lagos with its cobbled streets. There are ancient Moorish walls, a 17th-century fort, and extravagant Baroque Churches.

Day 9 Explore the Algarve Coast

We will take a beautiful walk from our hotel to the estuary and fishing harbor to the marina. From the Marina, we will take a boat to explore the Algarve coast. Experience the scenic beauty of Lagos on this cruise to Ponta da Piedade. After embarking from Lagos Marina, cruise by picturesque beaches and explore the caves and hidden coves of Ponta da Piedade.

Marvel at the dramatic sea cliffs, gold-sand beaches, and rocky coves of Portugal’s Algarve coast on this private catamaran cruise from Lagos. Sail past landmarks such as Camilo Beach and the black rock of Praia da Luz. We will also enjoy a delicious lunch on board.

We will end our Spirit of Portugal with a beautiful Seafood dinner in Lagos

Day 10 Return to Lisbon for our flight home or onward in Europe
